Austin 5 months

Ok. Time now doesn't seem to be going so fast. Austin turned 5 months old the other day and looking back to month 1 seems like FOREVER ago but was only 4 months...is that a long time? Heck, maybe time is still flying. Oh well. He is the most amazing baby. Seriously. He is a routine baby, just like our sweet baby girl. He sleeps through the night...and when I say through the night I mean through the night. Like 8-7; most of the time. If not, 8-5 at the least. He does great at nap time. We figured out today that if Daddy is home, he wants to be up though. For me, most of the time I lay him down, he rolls over, sucks his thumb and goes to sleep. He gave up the pacifier already (Courtney never did care for one) and only sucks his thumb to go to sleep. I totally prefer that as he always has that with him and can't drop it. Austin's biggest struggle now is rolling over. The boy can roll back to front and front to back (I have video of both!) but he chooses, yes, our 5 month old chooses not to roll from front to back. Ok, maybe not like "Hm, should I roll back over? No. I want Mama to come rescue me" but seriously, the boy won't go from front to back anymore. Oh well. It will happen. He does love to play in his rockin' entertainment center - I'll have to post some videos. He walks around in circles in it. He LOVES to eat. So far he has had avocado, sweet potato, banana and oatmeal. All home made and all with a exciting grin to have more. He loves it. Austin L O V E S his Daddy. I have never seen a baby so excited as I have him when Daddy comes home. He reaches out for him to hold him and it is precious. Courtney didn't develop that bond until she was quite a bit older. Male bonding already? Hm. It's cute. Well, anyway...here are our monthly pictures. Oh, he got (I gave) his first haircut the day before these pictures. He is darling and now clean cut!

The greatest thing ever...for baby food

As stated in the previous post, I was a happy recipient of a Baby Bullet for Christmas. Austin was only a few months old at the time so I put it up for the time. The other day I felt it was time to try him on some solid food so I busted this thing out and went to town! To me; it's amazing what 4 years and a little knowledge can do for a mom. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking anyone else, this is just me and the way I feel. But as Austin was getting ready for "foods" I started reading as all good moms with google do and "they" say start them on rice cereal...then move to rice cereal with banana...then to...well, I don't know because I stopped reading. I thought why rice cereal?why something with very little nutritional value and even less taste? he doesn't need to gain weight. he is a healthy boy who needs to eat healthy things, right?  So, I read some other things and found he doesn't have to start with rice cereal. Well, duh, I'm his mom, he had to start with whatever I gave him. I chose avocado. And honestly, he will probably never have 'rice cereal' or store bought baby food for that matter. So far I have made him avocado with breast milk, sweet potato with breast milk and bananas with breast milk. I am fortunate enough to have, oh, about 3 months supply of breast milk stored up to mix tons of baby food with. And I am blessed to stay home every day and have the time to make his baby food. So, I will take advantage of both of those and chose, what I believe to be, the best thing for our son. With the help of my Baby Bullet, I can do anything...with baby food.
oh yes. i made this. one sweet potato (about $1) = 6 servings! My new "they" says I will save over $1000 making my own baby food. Kind of a big ol' plus to me!

Austin's first food

I was the happy recipient of a Baby Bullet for Christmas (next post will be about the bullet). So, a couple of days ago Courtney and I whipped up Austin's first food. An avocado with a little breast milk. He had been sitting in the high chair while we did this and was getting quite restless. We sat down, Daddy grabbed the camera and we attempted to feed our almost 5 month old some avocado. Low and behold...he liked it! He didn't try to push it out of his month, he didn't make a funny face, he actually liked it. At first he was kind of confused and it just sat on the top of his mouth and tongue but then he needed to breath so he closed his mouth and was opened to the whole new world of F O O D. I must say it was a bitter sweet moment. There is something to be said about being his only source of nutrition and the bond that comes with exclusively breast feeding but I was quite happy at the same time to know that we are going to have yet another child who likes healthy food! After a few bites Courtney was so anxious to feed him so I handed over the spoon and she was so excited. I had to teach her how to put the food onto the top of his mouth and not give him too much but she was quite the natural. It's simply amazing how fast he is growing and the changes we are experiencing so fast.

Austin just bein' cute

***EDIT EDIT*** Maybe I just like how I usually do it...one picture at a time. Here are my favorites...

**EDIT** Still trying new things. Same pictures. Collage program....still not sure I like....

Totally trying something new here...a photo box collage...not sure if I will like it since I don't think it will print but it's cute for now. Here are some great pictures of Austin from just a little bit ago. He is just a big (literally) bundle of joy and SO happy all the time. He is working on rolling over all the way and thinks it is just so much fun. He can roll from back to front no problem and can really roll from front to back but just would rather not I guess...I don't know. He is precious though and we sure do love him.
